Dear Minister,
Dear Deputy Minister of Defense,
Dear Director,
Dear Excellencies,
Distinguished Guests,
Today, as North Macedonia marks its fifth anniversary as a member of NATO, I would like to extend, on behalf of the Ukrainian people and on my own behalf, heartfelt congratulations to our friendly country on achieving this important milestone.
Before joining NATO, North Macedonia walked a long and difficult path. However, the efforts made by the Macedonian society over many years are now being rewarded in the form of reliable security guarantees for the country in today’s extremely unstable international environment. At the same time, NATO membership contributes to the country’s economic development, making it more attractive for investment and creating conditions for the growth of the well-being of the citizens of North Macedonia.
Ukrainians will always remember the support that the Republic of North Macedonia has provided us since the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. We are truly grateful for this and hope for your continued support. In the fight against an enemy superior in manpower and military equipment, every bullet, every shell, every mine or grenade is of great importance for Ukraine — because all of this helps save the lives not only of our soldiers on the front lines but also of hundreds of civilians, including children, in the peaceful cities of our country.
Ukraine also aspires to become a full member of NATO, just like North Macedonia. And our country’s path toward that goal is no less difficult — and perhaps even longer — than yours. On one hand, there is a country that believes it has the right to decide for Ukrainians which unions or alliances we can or cannot join. On the other hand, there are countries that openly block our movement toward NATO. That is why every vote from each member of the Alliance is crucial to us, and we are counting on the voice of North Macedonia, which has always sincerely supported Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. The greatest security guarantee for Ukraine is NATO membership.
Allow me to wish North Macedonia success in its work within NATO, rapid economic growth, and to the friendly Macedonian people — prosperity and well-being, as well as a speedy recovery for those affected by the terrible tragedy in Kochani.
Thank you for your attention.
