President at the meeting with OSCE representatives: Peaceful solution to the situation in the Donbas is impossible without proper control over the border
07 октомври 2014 18:06

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with permanent representatives of the OSCE member-states. The parties discussed the necessity of establishing efficient control over the Ukrainian-Russian border.

The Head of State addressed the OSCE representatives with a request to immediately intensify the efforts of the special monitoring mission and called for the increase of the number of observers up to 1500. "According to our estimations, this number of the OSCE inspectors together with at least 29 drones is able to ensure objective control over the territory seized by terrorists," the President noted.

The President emphasized the necessity of immediate implementation of Minsk agreements and drew the attention of the OSCE representatives to the importance of ensuring control over the Ukrainian-Russian border with participation of the OSCE inspectors and with proper video recording as necessary precondition of further implementation of the Peace plan. "Only such a control will facilitate further de-escalation of the situation in the East of Ukraine," the Head of State stressed.

Petro Poroshenko mentioned numerous violations of the ceasefire regime by militants and their continuous use of heavy artillery.

"We must act resolutely and have a clear roadmap on the implementation of Minsk agreements. Unless we move in the Minsk format, we can have destabilization not only in Ukraine and Europe, but also globally," the President emphasized.

Petro Poroshenko also drew attention to the agreements on liberation of hostages. He noted that more than 600 Ukrainian hostages had not been liberated yet.

The President invited the OSCE representatives to take part in observing the elections to the Verkhovna Rada scheduled for October 26.

The Head of State also mentioned violations of rights of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea. He urged the OSCE member-states to intensify efforts on the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting was attended by 38 ambassadors – representatives of the OSCE member-states, Commissioner of the President on Peaceful Settlement of the Situation in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions Iryna Gerashchenko, Commissioner of the President on the Affairs of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev and Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Valeriy Chaly.
